How should you prepare for Forehead Surgery?

  • Feminization of the forehead brings about a very positive, but a drastic change in facial appearance. You must be prepared mentally for the change and seek counselling if required

  • For FFS, your doctor may require you to produce a clearance letter from your psychiatrist before the surgery
  • Discuss any medical illnesses, if you have, with your doctor before the surgery
  • Stop smoking for at least 2 weeks before the surgery

Forehead Surgery Procedure

Forehead surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Through an incision given along the hairline, the forehead bone is reshaped using safe, high-speed drills to give it a soft, round contour. The bony bulge between the eyebrows is either trimmed down or cut and inset to give it a gentle slope above the nose.

During the same operation, the brow bones may also be softened and reduced in prominence, and an eyebrow lift may also be performed, if required. Both these steps help in improving the projection and shape of the eyes to make them look more feminine and youthful.

A carefully shaped portion of the forehead skin may be removed at this stage to shorten the height of the forehead, if required. The incision is then closed with a few stitches and the wound is dressed.

At our center, all procedures are performed leaving no perceptible scars on the face. Mock surgeries are performed on surgical simulation software before the procedure to achieve predictable and accurate results. This also gives you a good idea of the final forehead shape so that you are able to give your own input and have some control over your results.

Advanced surgical equipment and premium quality implants used at our center ensure a shorter and safer surgery, with reduced surgical downtime. They also provide more accurate and aesthetic outcomes than conventional techniques.

Recovery after Forehead Surgery?

  • A simple forehead reduction is usually a daycare surgical procedure, when you can go home the same day as your surgery.
  • However, depending on the number and extent of procedures performed, forehead surgery may require a period of hospitalization of 1-2 days
  • Some swelling and bruising may be seen after the procedure, which gradually settles over few days to weeks after the surgery
  • You may experience some temporary numbness of the foreheadin some cases
  • Tissue healing progresses slowly and gradually over weeks following the surgery. While a large fraction of the swelling resolves within 2 – 4 weeks after surgery, complete resolution may take longer and facial features keep improving over the following 6-12 weeks. So, it is important to be patient to see the final result.
  • You may benefit from a period of psychological counselling after surgery to help adapt to the result.
